The Adecco Group calls for the apprenticeship solution at the Second European Vocational Skills week

This week, the European Commission is organising the Second European Vocational Skills Week. This represents an excellent opportunity for the Adecco Group to underline the importance of apprenticeships.

While the economies of European Union member states are largely back on the path of growth, unemployment — especially among the young — remains one of the biggest challenges. The proposal for a European Framework for Quality and Effective Apprenticeships adopted last month ties into the European Pillar of Social Rights, which foresees a right to quality and inclusive education, training and life-long learning.

The disparities among members of the European Union regarding systems of vocational and educational training for young people are one of the hurdles to tackle. One message rings loud and clear: those students provided with vocational training in the later years of secondary school are much more likely to gain swift access to and remain in the world of work.

Stephan Howeg, Chief Marketing Officer and member of the Executive Committee of the Adecco Group, and a former poly-mechanic apprentice himself, explains why vocational and educational training is so vital in an era when a "job for life" is turning into a pipe dream in a rapidly changing labour market. Apprenticeship learning models will form a critical part of the solution to help young people thrive in this brave new world of work.
