#1. Women in senior roles are leaving corporate America at a record pace.


Women leaders are joining The Great Resignation. A new report has found that women are advocating for themselves at work – or simply calling it quits – in search of companies that better value their experience.

"For the first time in all the years I've been working this report, women leaders — directors, vice presidents, and senior vice presidents — are walking away at higher rates than men," McKinsey's Senior Partner and report co-author, Lareina Yee, said. "Why are they doing that? Because women are ambitious. They are breaking up with companies that can't offer leadership opportunities." Read more at McKinsey.

#2. Global jobs growth will “deteriorate significantly” this quarter, ILO says

Economic turmoil caused by the Ukraine war and tighter monetary policy on consumption will limit global employment growth this quarter. The International Labour Organization (ILO) says there are already signs that a recovery in early 2022 has gone into reverse. Overall, there were 40 million fewer full-time jobs between July to September than the fourth quarter of 2019 (the pre-pandemic benchmark). Read more at Reuters.

New York is set to pass a series of city and state laws mandating that employers list salary ranges on job postings. The city law goes into effect on Nov. 1, while the state bill still awaits the governor’s signature. #4. Global fossil fuel usage to peak by 2030.

Peak global fossil fuel usage and the transition to clean energy will come by 2030, the International Energy Agency now says. The shift will happen sooner than expected due to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, as well as other factors. #5. The Google lawsuit that could change the Internet.

The U.S. Supreme Court will hear arguments on the federal shield law, or Section 230, this week. The case could have massive implications for algorithms and promote content and moderate content.

What is Section 230? It’s a clause within an Act that has long protected internet companies like Google and Facebook from liability for harmful content posted by users.
