We are a world in transition, faced with extraordinary shifts that continue to upend the current way business is, and should be, done. At the Adecco Group, we believe the private sector has a critical role to play in helping to rebalance our world for the benefit of all. And we are committed to playing our part: as a leading talent solutions and advisory company, and one of the largest employers worldwide, we want to lead by example in how we conduct our business, help our stakeholders navigate through these turbulent times, and take an active role in creating brighter futures for all.

With our Future@Work strategy, we are putting long-term, shared value creation at the centre of our strategy. We are committed to embracing a culture that consistently embeds material environmental, social and governance (ESG) considerations across our operations and value chain. To ensure we remain focused, we have translated our purpose into strategic goals that address the work-related sustainability needs of our core stakeholders, supported by three levers for impact that will help us drive meaningful action towards these goals. We want nothing less than to make the future work for everyone. This is our starting and end point for what we do.

Our framework

Our goals

To truly make the future work for everyone, we are working collectively towards five overarching, interlinked goals that address the work-related needs of our key stakeholders: colleagues, candidates and associates, clients, and institutions and society more broadly. Goals that we believe have never been more important than now.

Be an employer of choice

We are only as strong as our people. To lead the world of work and create value for all our stakeholders, we thus need – and want – to set the standard as a world-class employer for our current and future talent. Our ambition is to create an inclusive, positive, respectful and healthy work environment. We want everyone who works with, through or for us to be engaged and feel valued, inspired and empowered to thrive, united by our purpose of making the future work for everyone.

Facilitate employability and access to work

If the economy and society are to prosper, we need to unlock hidden pools of talent and increase the employability for all – so , so that nobody is left behind. Our vision is of a world where all people have the right skills to gain, or maintain, access to the world of work and are enabled to reach their full potential, and where every job provides fair remuneration and decent working conditions. We thus seek to leverage the knowhow and resources of the Group and other stakeholders to unlock human potential so that the future of work is accessible and open to all.

Be a trusted partner to clients

Our clients are key to our success. We don’t just want to be a supplier, but a trusted long-term partner that meets their needs now, as well as considers their ongoing talent requirements. We are committed to working hand in hand to provide tailored service and product offerings, built on a deep understanding of our clients’ needs and challenges. We want to be the partner of choice, steadfast in our commitment to responsible business conduct, thus helping our clients meet their own sustainability-related objectives.

Work towards social protection for all

Adequate social protection schemes are vital to help workers, businesses and government navigate a rapidly changing world. We believe that all workers, in all forms of work, should encounter decent work, with the same social protection parameters. This is what drives our advocacy call for a new social contract for work in the 21st century; one that provides security for all and recognises the new ways of working. We want to expand opportunities for all employees, ensuring the prosperity of a society that thrives on the value of work.

Advance climate protection

Climate change is one of the defining challenges facing society today and upending the current way business is and should be done. We are committed to playing our part in helping to safeguard the planet for future generations. We support organisations in adapting to the transformation that the move to greener business models requires particularly from a workforce perspective, ensuring a human-centric transition that leaves no one behind. This is complemented by our commitment to minimise our own environmental footprint.

This is underpinned by three global public commitments, complemented by further internal quantitative and qualitative targets and objectives:

Our levers for impact

We focus on three levers for change to achieve our goals:

  1. Consciously and consistently embedding material environmental, social and governance (ESG) considerations across our value chain.

The bedrock to achieving our vision is a deep understanding of the issues most material to our business and to our stakeholders. We conducted a comprehensive process to identify and prioritise these issues. We started with an analysis of existing work, international standards, regulations and best practices. To validate and prioritise our findings, we then engaged extensively with internal and external stakeholders, including clients, associates, colleagues, investors, suppliers, and representatives from institutions and the public at large, be it through an online dialogue with experts, a public online survey, internal workshops or private meetings. We continuously refined the list of topics based on the following criteria:

    • The importance to our stakeholders;

    • The importance to our business, based on each topic’s strategic fit, the impact on our business and values, potential opportunities and risks, and the innovation potential; and

    • The impacts of our activities on sustainable development along our value chain.

We continue to engage with a broad set of stakeholders to harness their insights and continuously validate our efforts and focus areas to ensure we continue to be on the right track. Learn more.

  2. Measuring and disclosing transparently and holistically how we create value for our stakeholders and what we stand for.

To ensure we are on the right track and make progress against our objectives, continuous measurement of our performance is key. We are serious about our commitments and hold ourselves accountable for our progress towards our goals.

  3. Strengthening how we govern and drive accountability for ESG across the organisation, including how we engage our employees in our efforts.

Strong governance structures and clear lines of accountability at every level of the organisation enable us to deliver on our ambition and commitments. In addition to assigning clear roles and responsibilities, we are also implementing relevant policies and guidelines to ensure a strong foundation for our efforts.

Contributing to the UN Sustainable Development Agenda 2030

The ‘Agenda 2030’ and its underlying 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) were adopted by the member states of the United Nations in 2015. They set out a clear roadmap towards ending extreme poverty, fighting inequality and injustice, and protecting our planet. There are many touchpoints between the SDGs and the world of work, which connects all social partners and is the principal provider of livelihoods and security. It’s crucial, now more than ever, for labour market stakeholders to come together and realise the tremendous opportunity – and responsibility – they have to create a more sustainable future.

As one of its prominent actors, we are fully committed to playing our part, to harness our expertise and resources to contribute to the achievement of this important vision. We focus particularly on those goals where we can have the biggest impact – help unlock future potential, facilitate access to work, and enable better economic development, wellbeing, livelihoods and security – while directly and indirectly contributing to many more.

In 2021, we launched a new SDG-focussed campaign shining a light on our collective responsibility, as shapers and participants in the world of work. It leverages our expertise to make employment a key driver of sustainable development and provides insights for next steps employers can take towards the achievement of the 2030 agenda. Learn more.
